Right Wingers looking to control the education system reminds me of what the Joker said to Harvey Dent: "I'm just a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it." Decades of whining about how Leftists dominate academia and then they get to make a few decisions.

What do they do? COW SCIENCE!

Fortunately, the damn thing was disowned by the government itself because even bhakts aren't going to ruin their futures getting degrees that do the opposite of making them look smart. The latest entrant into the RW educational mission is a course on counter-terrorism to be taught at JNU. It's a little more sophisticated than Cow Science of course but at the end of the day, it suffers from the same faults.

The purpose of education worldwide is to train students for the real world. People get educated to be better able to deal with the real world. Cow science gave people unscientific knowledge about cows and leaves them ill-equipped to deal with the real world. The proposed counter-terrorism course will leave its students similarly ill-equipped to deal with the reality of global terrorism.

Now imagine Indian youngsters going through this course and then deciding to follow through in this line of study abroad. They will get laughed out of international colleges and universities that focus on holistic views of global problems and reward students with deeper understandings of the socio-political forces that move the world.

Turning the education system into a tool for communal propaganda may serve the short-term goals of one political party in one country of the world. But it is not going to help India maintain its image as a country that sends out smart and competent people to serve as bureaucrats and experts the world over.

If you are a parent who gives a shit about the future of your child, be wary of these transparent attempts at turning your kids into simpletons who are unable think beyond the Indian Right Wing's political agenda. If not, then you might as well sign them up for the Cow Science exam.
